The Pondmakers: Ecosystem Pond Builders in East Anglia

Crafting Ecosystem Water Gardens With Expertise

Our Story

From a young age, founder Paul Micklethwaite had an affinity with ponds and water. Both his grandparents had ponds, starting a childhood obsession with frogs and fish. A keen fisherman from 5 years old, Paul would regularly be accompanied by his dad on the bankside. It is a passion he still pursues today whenever time allows, be it coarse or fly.

“I earnestly attempted to convince my parents to install a pond, but the high maintenance costs at the time, before the introduction of the Aquascape ecosystem pond in the UK, deterred them. If we had access to the system we are currently installing, I would have experienced firsthand the benefits I now provide to my customers and their families regularly.”

The high costs never stopped Paul from building ponds for friends in his spare time. After many years in the insurance industry, Paul set up a hard landscaping company called Broadland Landscaping Ltd, specialising in all aspects of the trade. Over time, he migrated towards crafting beautiful ponds and water features. Thus, The Pondmakers was born.

Meeting Aquascape

Paul’s Aquascape journey began during a phone conversation about garden lighting products with a distributor who also represented Aquascape products in the UK. This pivotal call with Landscapeplus led to a significant turning point when we learned that Toby Hutchins, the UK Sales Manager for Aquascape, resided just three miles away.

“After obtaining his contact information, we arranged a meeting, and the rest, as they say, is history. Aquascape offers invaluable practical and online training, which enabled us to transition from a general landscaping company to specialists in constructing natural-looking water gardens.”

Today, Paul and the team take pride in delivering the highest quality pond builds, creating natural ecosystem ponds that appear as if crafted by nature itself. They achieve this without using chemicals that could harm wildlife, ensuring a harmonious and sustainable environment.

Meet the Owners

When he is not building ponds, Paul loves spending time with his wife and children and walking the dog.

In one drop of water are found all the secrets of all the oceans.
